Stress Awareness Month

April is stress awareness month so we want to take some time to discuss stress and tips to combat it! This last year has brought some degree of stress to many of us. At times stress levels can feel manageable, but there are other times when it feels like they are taking over. There are many coping mechanisms that we can use, but did you know chiropractic is actually one of them?

Let us explain why! Subluxations or misalignments in the spine can shift our nervous system into a sympathetic dominant state. The sympathetic nervous system initiates a fight or flight response that we use when the body senses stress. Our parasympathetic system is just the opposite and initiates a rest or calming response. These responses from the body work complementary with one another. Correcting subluxations in the spine can help calm the body down allowing our nervous system to shift back and forth between these two states appropriately! Read more on spinal care here

Aside from chiropractic care, we’ve outlined a few other ways that may help to decrease your stress levels:

Acupuncture
Exercise
Diaphragmatic breathing
Spending time outside
Decrease sugar intake
