Getting Back to Your Pain-Free Self
Whether your headaches or migraines are frequent or intermittent, they are not something that you should have to deal with. Headaches can be debilitating, especially for those who suffer from them chronically. According to the International Headache Society, headaches affect more than 40% of the population.
Chiropractic is an extremely effective and natural way to treat both headaches and migraines. Chiropractic has been shown to decrease the intensity and frequency of headaches, and in many cases eliminate them. One of our own doctors decided to become a chiropractor for this very reason.
How exactly does chiropractic help? It is first important to understand that the bones of your spine are what protects your nervous system. Your nervous system is made up of your brain, spinal cord, and spinal nerves. This means that while chiropractors are “bone doctors” we actually work with the nervous system, as well!
When the joints of the spine aren’t functioning or moving properly, it can create muscle tension and inflammation. This inflammation can place stress on your nervous system creating pain such as headaches. Through a detailed history, exam, posture analysis, and x-rays if needed, we are able to determine what is contributing or causing your pain. Chiropractors deliver a specific and gentle adjustment that corrects joint dysfunction. This frees up the muscle tension and takes pressure off your nervous system allowing it to do its job freely.
Aside from chiropractic care, acupuncture can also be beneficial. The American Migraine Foundation recognizes acupuncture as a safe an effective way of treating migraine headaches. Acupuncture works by increasing blood flow, releasing endorphins (your body’s natural pain killer), and helping to reduce any muscle tension that may be putting pressure on your nerves. Chiropractic and acupuncture combined is a great way to eliminate or decrease the intensity of your headaches.
