Happy New Year from Health From Within! We hope that everyone had a great holiday season. It’s hard to believe that 2021 is over and we are officially into 2022! This is the time of year where many of us pause and reflect on the year prior, and start to set goals for the new year. Setting goals is important in helping not only to form new behaviors but also to help guide your focus. It’s important, however, to make sure your goals are specific and attainable. Many of us feel excited and energized in the new year while setting goals, but we want to make sure that these goals are still attainable when your work schedule picks up and life gets busier! We recommend using the SMART goals template when goal setting so that you can do exactly that. It’s easy and we’ve outlined it below to help you out!
How to write SMART goals:
Specific: Be specific! Think about the popular “w” questions- who, what, when, where, why. For example, instead of saying “I want to exercise more frequently”, phrase it as “I want to exercise 3x per week for at least 30 minutes.”
Measurable: If this is a goal that is going to take weeks or months to complete, set smaller milestones to reach in between. Log your progress in a journal or in your phone to reflect back on.
Achievable: Think about what you need to accomplish this goal and whether or not you currently have these tools or skills. If you don’t, what do you need to attain them?
Relevant: Make sure this is a goal that really matters to you. Your goal needs to be important to you.
Time-based: Make sure you give yourself enough time to do this with smaller goals set up.
