What We Treat

Neck Pain

Common Causes of Neck Pain

Neck pain can be caused by a multitude of things. Although diseases can cause neck pain, the majority of the neck pain we see here at Health From Within stems from injuries, wear-and-tear related to aging, or lifestyle habits. The following are just a few of the causes of neck pain that we can help with here at Health From Within.

  • Osteoarthritis
  • ‘Tech neck’ from looking down at smartphones and other screens
  • Bulging or herniated discs
  • Whiplash and other trauma

Since our neck plays such a significant role in the majority of the tasks we do, it’s not surprising that neck muscles become strained and painful. Because of the extensive use of our neck, it can easily and frequently be thrown out of alignment, compressing nerves and causing pain.

Even mild nerve compression can cause painful nerve irritation and inflammation, further fueling pain.

Symptoms of Neck Pain

Every person is unique which means the neck pain each person experiences is also unique. Some of our patients report sharp, stabbing pain while others feel that their neck is tender and sore. Some experience pain that moves from the neck outward to the head, shoulders, arms, and fingers limiting their range of motion.

How Our Chiropractor Diagnoses Neck Pain

During your initial appointment for neck pain chiropractic care, our chiropractor will perform a detailed assessment. This will include a range of health questions to learn about your medical past and current health habits. We’ll also conduct a physical examination as well as perform tests to assess your functional movement. This will help us pinpoint the underlying causes of any neck pain you are experiencing.

Chiropractic Treatments for Neck Pain

Chiropractic care is an effective and safe way to reduce swelling and discomfort caused by neck pain. Routine chiropractic care can help patients manage their pain without the use of prescription medications or over-the-counter pain medications. Our neck pain chiropractors use a variety of techniques to manipulate the spine and other joints in the body to reduce pain and improve function.

Chiropractic Adjustment

Also known as spinal manipulation, a chiropractic adjustment is a hands-on therapy that restores nerve function and reduces pain. Its purpose is to correct subluxation or spinal misalignment.

Subluxations can cause pain because they press on nerves. This compression can limit movement and alter how the brain perceives sensation. If left untreated, a misaligned spine can develop arthritis. Subluxations can be caused by accidents, inflammation, disease, or even everyday movement.

Cervical Spinal Decompression

Cervical decompression therapy is a gentle stretching of the neck that can help relieve pressure on the discs and nerves in the cervical spine. This type of therapy can be used to treat symptoms such as neck pain and pain that radiates into the arms. It may also help to reduce inflammation, which can worsen the pain.

Soft Tissue Work

Soft tissue work such as massage therapy can help alleviate thigh muscles that can be the root cause of neck stiffness and pain. In addition, massage increases blood flow which brings healing oxygen and nutrients to the area as it removes lactic acid and other waste products that increase muscle pain.

Specialized Neck Exercises

Exercise is important for neck pain because it helps increase blood flow to the area, which enhances healing. It can also be used to strategically strengthen the muscles that support the neck and improve its flexibility for increased range of motion.

Modern life tends to include many ‘head-down’ postures from looking at smartphones and computer screens. These tend to disrupt proper alignment leading to imbalanced muscles, stiffness, and pain. Custom therapeutic exercises focused on posture correction can be helpful in correcting these issues.

Benefits of Seeing Our Chiropractor for Neck Pain

There are several benefits to seeing our chiropractor for neck pain. Neck pain is a common problem that can have a big impact on your quality of life. At Health From Within we don’t just treat the symptoms – we get to the root of the problem.

Through a comprehensive assessment, we’ll identify the issues causing your neck pain. Then, we’ll create a treatment plan that includes reducing inflammation and pain, improving range of motion and flexibility, and promoting overall health.

The chiropractor offers a safe and effective alternative to potentially addictive pain medication, risky surgery, and other symptom-focused treatments.

We don’t just focus on helping reduce pain. We set each of our patients up to make healthier lifestyle choices such as eating a more nutritionally balanced diet, incorporating an exercise program, and adding mindfulness-based relaxation techniques into their day-to-day lives.

Do you accept insurance?

We work with a limited number of plans, and many of those usually cover only a small part of care. Most of our patients pay directly for their care plan. This is intentional. Insurance is built to pay for short-term symptom relief at the lowest cost to the insurer. It is not built to fund the kind of individualized care that actually changes how someone feels, moves, and functions over time. Coverage rules, visit limits, and “medical necessity” definitions are written around the insurance company’s budget, not around your specific health goals.

Patients choose our office because the plan is theirs, the progress is measurable, and the care is never cut short. If you have benefits you would like us to check, we are happy to look. Either way, the recommendation is based on what your body needs and what you want to achieve, not on what an insurance company is willing to reimburse.

What should I expect at my first visit?

Plan on about 30-45 minutes. You will get intake forms by text or email beforehand. Fill them out ahead of time, or arrive 10 minutes early to complete them here. Our concierge team will greet you, then you will meet one-on-one with your doctor for a consultation, a thorough evaluation, digital X-rays if needed, and your first relief treatment if the findings support it. Your individualized care plan is reviewed at your follow-up visit, once we have your exam and X-ray findings together and can match the plan to your specific health goals.

Do you treat children and during pregnancy?

Yes. Every doctor here is trained to provide pediatric and prenatal chiropractic care. Dr. Ochsner, the founder, is Webster Certified and has more than 28 years of clinical experience. He personally trained each doctor on the team in the Health From Within prenatal and pediatric protocols he developed, so the approach is consistent no matter which doctor you see.
